What is the ESI Enrichment Programme?

 

The ESI Enrichment Programme at Winstanley shows there is more to student life than just gaining your qualifications. It provides a platform of experiences that not only supports and enriches what you are learning about in the classroom but also might inspire and enable you to take your interests further. By offering a range of activities it allows you to build a wide array of transferrable skills that both universities and employers look for and helps you to make that next step to your future aspirations.

 

Why take part?

All students are encourage to complete 80 hours of enrichment over their two years at college. Students should consider a wide variety of activities which enhance their personal development.

How do I sign up?

You will have the chance to visit an enrichment fair on your Induction Day at Winstanley. This will give you an idea of the wide variety of enrichment activities available. You'll be able to ask staff questions and sign up for clubs, societies and events to enhance your life skills. Do not worry if you forget to sign up for an activity on your Induction Day. Enrichment is promoted through departments, group guidance sessions and via social media channels throughout the year.

What do I do if an activity is not offered?

If an activity is not offered please just contact the college Enrichment Officer via the contact form below and we will add this activity to the programme.

MOOCS

MOOCS (Massive, Online, Open Courses) are often free courses available from a wide variety of universities world wide that you can use to extend your subject knowledge or even learn about things that have always interested you but never been able to find out about. They are often certificated and are great to get involved with to show off your passion for a subject and your ability to do higher level work of the level you may encounter in Higher Education.

Guest speakers inspire young people about possible futures and what it might take to reach them, as well as broaden students' horizons to see the world outside of their classroom and local community. Students have the opportunity to learn something new or hear a new perspective on a topic that interests them from a guest speaker.

Work Placements

As a college we are committed to providing our students with the best all round experience, preparing them for their next steps and making sure that they feel confident in choosing the right pathway for them. One of our main aims is to work closely with employers to help provide a range of meaningful experiences for our students including raising awareness about 'hidden jobs' or aspects of industry they may not have considered previously, as well as listening to experts in the field and getting some real world experience of the workplace.

Budget Challenge 

In this enrichment activity you will learn the basics of financial literacy, such as how to create a budget, the compounding impact of debt, how mortgages work, why building an emergency fund is important and how to save for short-term goals such as holidays and a first car. This enrichment activity might be suitable for those studying Business and Economics, students considering a career as a financial advisor or anyone looking to improve their personal finance knowledge for later life.

£10 challenge

The Tenner Challenge, four-week challenge in which students take a flow pledge to get their business ideas off the ground and make as much profit as they can. The Tenner Challenge represents a safe environment for young people to experience the complete process of setting up and running their own enterprise; from creating a product, designing a company logo, working as a team, and managing a budget to trading with the public. Through experiential learning, the Tenner Challenge offers a platform for young people to build and develop key employability skills that will prepare them for the changing world of work beyond statutory education.
