Winstanley College’s Chair of Governors, David Rosbottom OBE, has retired 20 years to the day when he first became a governor at the College.
As the College’s longstanding Chair of Governors, he has guided and supported no fewer than four College Principals at Winstanley!
Friends and colleagues gathered at Wrightington Hotel and Country Club to wish him well in his retirement. They commented that his total integrity, selflessness and absolute commitment to the College have been inspirational. His guidance as Chair of Governors has been key in making Winstanley the outstanding college it is today, one with a national reputation and a long history of excellence.
Just this year the College was crowned winner of the Daily Telegraph’s Educate North College of the Year Award and then went on to win the northwest Educate Award for Most Inspirational post-16 Provider. It has also been nominated for the Times Educational Supplement Award for College of the Year.
Current Principal, Louise Tipping, said: “We are really going to miss David’s outstanding guidance at the College. He’s always been a champion for our students and a wonderful ambassador for our College. First and foremost, he has been about making sure that we are the best college in Wigan and indeed the North West. Knowing David, he will continue to keep an eye on us and keep us right!”
