Maths lovers from schools across the region were treated to a workshop with Dr Katie Steckles this week, hosted at Winstanley College, the home of the North West Maths Hub.
Dr Katie Steckles, from the ‘Think Maths’ organisation gave two fun talks focusing on ‘Maths’s Greatest Unsolved Puzzles’ and ‘The Hidden Maths of Technology’. The session illustrated some open problems in Mathematics and gave a chance for the audience to solve puzzles of their own.
The North West Maths Hub, led by Maths tutor at Winstanley, Katie Williams, brings the brightest mathematicians from local schools together and offers events and challenges both on and offline. Katie said: ‘The Dr Katie Steckles workshop was the latest event to be put on by Maths Hub and it did not disappoint! Katie put maths problems into an everyday context which really got the students thinking. We had excellent feedback from the schools and hope to put on more events in the near future.’
