The finest sports men and women from Winstanley College represented the North West at the Association of Colleges National Championships at Nottingham University over the weekend (22nd and 23rd April).

The action-packed weekend saw a number of successes including Rachel Sidebotham and Maria McPolin who helped the North West Women’s Team to a 2nd place finish in Cross Country and James Metcalfe who helped the North West Men’s Team to a 3rd place finish.

Richard Eccles was part of the North West Men’s Hockey Team who achieved a 5th place finish. The North West team coach also commented on Richard’s outstanding attitude, work rate and ability.

The Women’s Volleyball Team finished 7th overall but gave both finalists (Newcastle Under Lyme College and Petroc College) a scare in Pool B pushing them both to 3 sets. All feedback from coaches, students and officials was extremely positive.

Ben Rutherford, Sportsmaker for the college said: “All students involved represented the college with great class, dignity and sportsmanship. I am overjoyed with how they conducted themselves all weekend and they did themselves and the college proud. Well done guys!”
