Last month, our very own student-run station Winstanley TV launched a new, weekly news programme to keep fellow students current on all top stories and events happening in and around Winstanley College.
We recently caught up with Katie Sutton-Wilson, Katie Liptrot and Ben Cunliffe to learn a little more about Winstanley News and the people behind it.
1 – What is your role within Winstanley News?
Katie Sutton-Wilson – Presenter and Executive Producer
Katie Liptrot – Executive Producer
Ben Cunliffe – Presenter and Executive Producer
2 – How did Winstanley News come about?
It originally came about when we were discussing how we could expand Winstanley TV. We eventually decided that it would be best to split Winstanley TV into four sections – Factual which covers things like documentaries, Entertainment; we do some game shows, News and Marketing.
3 – What interests you about News / TV Broadcasting?
Katie S – You’re creating something, there’s also a feeling that anything is possible, although not on our budget!
Ben – I’ve just always wanted to work in TV.
4 – What’s the best thing about being involved with Winstanley TV?
Katie L – For me personally, It’s the chance to do something completely different to what I’d normally do.
Ben – I’ve gotten a real insight into the different areas of TV such as presenting, directing and everything that happens behind the scenes.
Katie S – It’s good fun and the whole Winstanley TV team really feels like a tight knit community.
5 – Why should students watch Winstanley News?
It informs you of everything that is happening around college. We also think that a two or three minute news video presented by some familiar faces is much easier for students to digest compared to mountains of emails. More views also means a bigger budget so please watch!
6 – Is there anything else regarding Winstanley News or Winstanley TV that you’d like to add?
We’ll be getting a news desk soon which is something that we’re all excited about. Another episode of Escape Room is also currently in the works…that’s going to be very interesting!
7 – If you could work on any TV show what would it be?
Katie L – 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown
Ben – This Morning
Katie S – Either Comic Relief or Eurovision, I can’t choose between them!
8 – What does the future hold?
Katie S – I’m going to Salford to study Film Production. One day I’d like to be a director who makes great films and wins awards.
Katie L – A maths degree, I want to be a teacher.
Ben – I’m also going to Salford although I’ll be studying Media and Performance. My long term goal is to be a presenter on This Morning.
