Everyone who has seen Ellen’s Garden at Winstanley College will appreciate that it is beautiful. But the most beautiful thing about the garden is how many talented and generous people contributed to its creation. Winstanley would like to thank this team of people.
Clare Edwards of Clare’s Gardens gave freely of her talents to create the original design and Claire Skidmore of Muddy Boots made sure the design was made reality on time and in the cruellest of weather spells. The slate came from the Honister Slate Mine and was engraved by sculptor, Danny Clahane with words chosen by Ellen’s family. Farmer Charles Valentine then donated his time, skill and tractor to position the slate in the garden. Thank you to Peter Hollinrake of Wigan Council who donated a bench and to Nigel Berry and his team at NPB Projects who fixed all the benches in place. We are also grateful to Antony Corbett of Proland for the way in which the surrounding grounds have been immaculately maintained.
Just as the garden itself is inspired by Ellen, we know that this coming together of talented people is a reflection of Ellen’s open hearted and generous spirit. Thank you everyone.
