More than 85 A level students at Winstanley College got 3 or more As or A*s today.
Not only are College teachers delighted with the overall pass rate but also by the fact that nearly half of all students achieved at least one A grade!
The majority of students secured a place at their first choice university, many of them at the most selective Russell Group universities, including students who will be going on to Oxford and Cambridge universities. Billy Matthews who came to Winstanley from St Bede’s Catholic High School, achieved top grades in Maths, Economics and Business and is off to study Land Economy at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge.
An impressive number of students are also going on to study Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science degrees. Max Holcroft who came to us from Standish High School will be studying Medicine at Churchill College, Cambridge.
While the College is rightly celebrating the achievements of its A level students, they are also applauding the music, theatre and art students studying practical vocational courses who between them racked up an amazing 43 Distinction* top grades. These qualifications require both academic excellence and creative talent, so congratulations to them on securing places at a number of highly prestigious specialist colleges such as the Royal Northern College of Music and Central St Martins in London.
Louise Tipping, Winstanley College’s Principal, said: “We are so proud of the way our students have risen to the challenge of achieving grades that take them to the very best universities. Dedicated and talented staff have worked tirelessly to support these hard-working students and it’s great that all that combined effort has paid off!”
