Congratulations to Winstanley College student Matthew Hill who recently received the runner up award in the Science category of the prestigious Pembroke Tyler Essay Prize.
Run annually by Pembroke College, Oxford; the Pembroke Tyler Essay Prize sees students produce a 1500-2000 word essay based on a predefined essay question of their choice from three possible categories: Humanities, Science and Social Science. The competition is open to Year 12 students from state schools or sixth form colleges within Pembroke’s linked North West regions: Bolton, Bury, Cheshire, Halton, Rochdale and Wigan. Once submitted, essays are marked by Pembroke College postgraduates with feedback provided to all participants.
Former Deanery High School pupil Matthew, who won a £50 book token for Blackwell’s bookshop, was praised for his excellent writing style and depth of knowledge with his essay clearly reflecting substantial effort and research.
Well done Matthew!
