Here it is… the first #ThrowbackThursday of 2019!
This week, we feature our former student Amos Wynn who studied English Language, Law and Politics at Winstanley College from 2015 to 2017. In December 2018, he was awarded a prestigious ‘On Course Excellence Scholarship’ by Edge Hill University. Worth up to £2000, the scholarship was designed to reward students demonstrating considerable determination, commitment and achievement outside their studies.
Now in his second year of studying Sociology with Politics at the university; Amos is also proving to be a very promising journalist and has already developed an impressive writing portfolio, focusing primarily on sport, politics and music.
During his time at Winstanley, he started writing articles and explored various ways in which he could get his work published. Amos soon discovered that interview pieces appeared to be most sought-after and set out to interview as many people as possible. This approach led to a very productive interview with rugby sevens Olympic silver medallist Dan Bibby, which was picked up by the Wigan Post. Since then, he has also interviewed St Helens winger Regan Grace, MPs Yvonne Fovargue and Dan Carden, along with a selection of bands such as The Sherlocks and DMA’s.
Amos currently has a regular writing role with the Wigan Post covering rugby sevens and contributes to Southport FC’s match day programme. Looking to the future, he plans to pursue a Master’s degree and a journalism qualification.
Keep on writing your success story Amos…You are Winstanley!
