Module Module Content Assessment and weighting
AS Understanding Dance: This unit requires students to attain the knowledge and understanding of dance in its historic and current context. Students are required to be able a) to observe the skills needed by a dancer as a performer, through using anatomical knowledge and by understanding the interpretative and performance skills used b) to be able to analyse the nature and process of the art of choreography, and c) to be aware, in response to this, to the significance of dances, either of their own performance, or from professional repertoire. Externally assessed written examination   20%
AS Choreography & Performance: This module requires candidates to answer two questions. a) a solo performance of, their own, original choreography in a style of dance suited to the given question, between two and three minutes duration. b) the candidate is required to perform as part of a duet/trio in any dance style of three to four minutes duration and is marked on their individual performance skills. Students will learn about the choreographic process, the interpretative and performance skills needed by the dancer, and the additional elements required when performing in a group context.  Internally assessed practical performance   30%
A2 Appreciation: Content and Context: This unit requires students to demonstrate an understanding of the development of dance through the study of the context in which dances are presented and from which they are derived, together with a critical appreciation of practitioners and their works. The written examination requires students to gain an understanding of a) the investigation of a specific dance genre, Ballet, Modern, or Jazz dance, and b) a set work. Externally assessed written examination 25%  
A2 Group Choreography and Solo Performance Experience of choreography and performance through practice is central to this unit using direct links to the theoretical subject content of Unit 3. The unit consists of two questions, a) students choreograph a group piece, in which they do not perform, of two to three minutes duration b) a solo piece performed by the individual in a dance style linked to a practitioner working in any of the three prescribed genres  specified in Unit 3. This unit is assessed by a visiting examiner.   Externally assessed practical performance
