UNIT 1 Integrated Analysis and Text Production |
In this module we will study two set texts. You will answer two questions in the exam. One will be an analytical question, where you may be asked to look at some aspect of the text like theme or character. The second question will ask you to write in a particular style, basing your writing on your knowledge of the text. The texts for study include Tennessee Williams’ play A Streetcar Named Desire and the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. |

UNIT 2 Analysing Speech and its Representation |
In this module we will learn about speech in real life and the ways it’s used in literature. We will study how speech is used in lots of different contexts and how a writer uses speech in a text to create particular effects. You’ll answer two questions in the exam, one on an analysis of speech, one on the set text. The set text is Shakespeare’s Othello. |

UNIT 3 Comparative Analysis and Text Adaptation |
In this module we will learn to compare texts from lots of different genres, historical periods and modes. We will also develop writing skills by recasting aspects of a set text into a new one. You’ll answer two questions for the exam, one on texts you haven’t seen before, and one which will ask you to create a new piece of writing based on a non-literary text we’ve studied. |

UNIT 4 Comparative Analysis through Independent Study |
In this module you’ll write a coursework essay on a linking aspect of two set texts. One of the texts we study will be poetry. You’ll get the chance to explore a topic you find interesting and will be allowed to redraft and develop your piece as you go along. |
