Exploring Film Form (FM1) |
- One written analysis of how camerawork, editing, sound, special effects, mise-en-scene (props, costume , setting/location) combine to create meaning in a sequence from a film of the student’s choice. (1,500 words)
- One creative project where students put into practice the theory they have learned from detailed film analysis. This project can take one of three forms :
- An extended outline for a film sequence or a whole short film – 700-800 words
- A photographed storyboard for a film sequence or short film – 10-25 images
- A film sequence or short film shot on video and consisting of 10-25 shots, some of which could be repeated – 2 mins in length approx.
The creative project must be accompanied by a reflective analysis of 700 words in writing or in digital form (a blog or website) or as a focused DVD commentary. |

Three questions – one from each section : Section A – the relationship between producers and audiences and a study of the U.S. and U.K. film industry Section B - topics in British Film Section C – U.S. film – a comparative study of two American films |

A small-scale research project based on a focus film and two other related films chosen to develop students’ research skills A creative project in the form of a detailed film outline, screenplay, short film or film extract produced by the student. |
