LANGUAGES: French, German and Spanish
AS Module Content
Students will develop language skills and grammatical understanding in order to engage in a variety of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities based around the following two areas of study:
| Leisure and lifestyle: Travel and tourism, sport, hobbies, entertainment, customs, traditions, healthy living – health, nutrition, diet and exercise, unhealthy living – drugs, aids, smoking, alcohol etc | Oral exam – conducted and assessed by external examiner (20%) Listening, reading and writing exam – externally assessed (30%) |
| The individual and society: Relationship, responsibilities, gender issues, youth culture (values, peer groups, fashions and trends), education, vocational training and careers |
A2 Module Content
| Environmental issues: Pollution, global warming, transport, energy, conservation, recycling, sustainability | Oral exam – conducted and assessed by external examiner (20%) Listening, reading and writing exam – externally assessed (30%) |
| Social and political issues: The role of the media, racism, immigration, social exclusion and integration, terrorism, world of work | |
| Cultural studies: In French and Spanish one region and one work of literature will be studied. In German, two regions will be studied |
Spanish for Beginners
| Year 1 GCSE |
Students start Spanish from scratchand take the GCSE exam at the end of the year. |
| Year 2 AS and A2 |
Students cover the AS topics up to Christmas, then the A2 topics from January onwards. All the AS and A2 exams are taken at the end of the second year. |
