Music Technology Port Folio: Sequencing, Arranging and Recording |
Unit 1 contains assignments in Arranging, Sequencing and Recording. Students will learn a variety of arranging skills accompanied by the study of rudiments and theory of music, sequencing skills working with Audio, MIDI and Virtual Studio Technology, and recording live instruments in a traditional studio environment. The Assignments submitted are a realised “performance” for which a skeleton score is provided, a multi track recording, and a creative sequenced arrangement of an existing song prescribed by Edexcel. A log book accompanies this unit. |

Listening and Analysis |
Unit 2 contains an in depth study of musical styles and genres accompanied by the study of studio production techniques since 1910 with half the paper focused on two popular styles prescribed by Edexcel. This unit also focuses on music theory including score recognition, intervallic reference, chord progressions, harmony, rhythm, and melody writing. |

Music Technology Port Folio: Sequencing, Arranging and Recording |
Unit 3 comprises of a mixture of multi – track and integrated recording, developing further techniques and building on the knowledge from the first year. Students will also be taught sampling and Synthesis. The multi – track recording is produced in relation to one topic chosen from two. The Sequenced Integrated performance is the students’ opportunity to interpret and produce a version of a song specified by Edexcel combining sequenced MIDI, Synthesis, Sampling and real Audio. They will also be expected to include a set brief composition from a choice of three. A log book accompanies this unit. |

Analysis and Production |
Unit 4 focuses on the study of music production and takes the form of a two hour exam split into two parts, one part for analysing students ability to manipulate and correct recorded music and their ability to write commentaries on technological processes. The second part is a production exam where students are expected to take an audio CD of unfinished song data, correct mistakes and produce a mastered stereo mix down. |
