Module Module Content Assessment and weighting
AS Creating Performance There will be skills based workshops in each of the art forms of dance, drama and music leading to short performance pieces. A longer piece combining elements of all three art forms will be performed in a community venue. A written commentary on the practical presentations, and the performance in the community are assessed. Internally assessed coursework and practical   35%
AS Performance Contexts 1 Students study two practitioners, each from a different section. (ie: one in each of two selected art forms). The current choices are: DANCE: Shobhana Jeyasingh, Matthew Bourne, Lloyd Newson DRAMA: Caryl Churchill, Athol Fugard, John Godber MUSIC: The Beatles, George Gershwin, John Adams One piece of work is studied for each selected practitioner.   Externally assessed written examination   15%
A2 Performance Contexts 2 Students study nine extracts (three from dance, three from music and three from drama) from one of the following current topics:
  • Post-Modern Approaches to the Performing Arts
  • Politics and Performance Since 1914
  • The Twentieth Century American Musical
  • Approaches to Performance in the Far East
Externally assessed written examination   15%
A2 Performance Project There will be two performance assessments. These are:
  • A performance of one of the works which they have studied in either Performance Contexts 1 or 2. this may be in a single art form or a combination of art forms. This may be individual or group work.
  • A student devised performance from a commission provided by the exam board – using an integrated approach to the art forms. This is group work.
Externally assessed practical examination   35%
