AS	Religion, Art and the Media	Using examples from Buddhism, Christianity and Islam, the course considers how religion is reflected in art, fiction and comedy, and on TV. We will also look at cyber religion and the opportunity and challenges of the internet for religion. Everything from Icons to the Simpsons!	Externally assessed written examination 25%
AS	Islam: The way of submission:	This is an opportunity to explore the nature and importance of religion and the beliefs and practices of one of the most important religions in the world today. Islam often gets a bad press, but does the media image truly reflect the majority of Muslims? Who are the Muslims of Britain, and why are some white British people converting to Islam? This module gives us a basis for our study of religion as a whole so that later in the course we can compare and contrast Islam with aspects of Buddhism and Christianity. A2	Life, Death and Beyond	What happens when we die? This unit explores the variety of beliefs about life after death and the end of the world, and the effect of those beliefs on the way in which people live their lives. Is death the end, or shall we be re-born on earth or be raised back to life for judgement at the end of time? Do we live on in our children or in the consequences of our actions for future generations? Aspects of Buddhism, Christianity and Islam come together in this module as we explore the variety of beliefs and traditions surrounding death.	Externally assessed written examination 25%
A2	Religion and Art	This unit explores the way Christians have expressed their faith in Art. Icons in the Orthodox Church are investigated along with art in the Catholic and Protestant traditions. There is an opportunity to study the work of one important Christian Artist in greater detail.	Externally assessed written examination 25%
