Former Winstanley student Josh is now a professional ballet dancer.
“After being part of Winstanley’s dance company at the time “Studio 5” and performing at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in “All or Nothing At All”, I knew dance was it for me.
I applied for different dance schools and was lucky enough to get into Rambert, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet and Bird College. I chose Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance which gave me the chance to dance for English National Ballet. Once I graduated, I danced for Michael Clark Company and then Ballet Black.
My advice to aspiring dancers is to never give up your plan. I was unsuccessful in my first audition for Swan Lake. Although I was very disappointed at the time, it allowed me to take up other opportunities and build up experience. When I auditioned again a couple of years later I got the contract. Currently I am swinging between three different roles in the Red Shoes and enjoying keeping it different every night.”
