Winstanley College have been recognised by The Sunday Times as one of the country’s best state sixth forms. The top sixth form colleges were ranked on average examination performance from 2017-19, to reflect pre-pandemic results in ‘normal’ times.

Out of 75 state sixth forms Winstanley have ranked 17th on the list, placing the College within the top 3 state sixth forms in North England and the highest ranked in Greater Manchester. Louise Tipping, College Principal, said:

‘I am so proud of our wonderful staff and students who have worked so hard throughout the pandemic to achieve their very best.’

Winstanley College students consistently achieve their best with 940 achieving A*/ A grades at A Level and 65% of all students achieving A*-B grades (3-year average). 63% of students studying vocational subjects achieve a Distinction* or Distinction (3-year average).

Each year, over 800 students progress to university, almost 300 of which are Russel Group institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge. Many others go on to study incredibly competitive university courses and high-level apprenticeships. Saskia, the College’s Student Union President, said:

‘I am so proud to be the student union president at such an amazing college. The support and resources at Winstanley College are second to none and I am so very happy and honoured to represent my college.’

This was echoed by our Student Governor, James:

‘I am not surprised that Winstanley College has been recognised for its wide-ranging achievements and academic excellence. Faculty and students alike take pride in the fact they are part of the Winstanley community, and that is reflected in the outcomes for students. As Student Governor, I am acutely aware that the desire to help every student achieve their potential is central to Winstanley’s ethos.’

We’re proud of every Winstanley student and are thrilled to have been recognised for our hard work and commitment.
