Upper sixth Winstanley student Liam Pope has been successful in getting his poetry anthology ‘Pocket PMA’ published on Amazon. The former St. Edmund Arrowsmith student said, ‘I’ve always had a passion for poetry which was inspired by my grandma whose love for poetry was infectious. I have really fond memories of reading and bonding with her over our passion for poetry when I was younger.’
Pocket PMA which stands for positive mental attitude holds a number of poems inspired by Liam’s life and recent events. When asked what his main inspiration for the anthology was, he advised, ‘My mum Patrice. She has just recovered from breast cancer and was the main inspiration for my book. My friends and family are so important to me and not only helped me produce it but supported me in doing so!’
When asked which was his favourite poem, he said, ‘my favourite is Llareggub which was inspired by the fictional mythical South Wales village of the same name in Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood. I remember holidaying in Wales with my family as a child and this is what inspired me to write this particular poem.’
Liam who studies English Language, English Literature and Ancient History has been offered a place for September to study English Literature at the University of Manchester. He said ‘The past year has been miserable for everyone with the pandemic and there has been a lot of heartache and sacrifice for everyone. In writing my poetry I just wanted to bring a little bit of positivity to the world and if I could brighten up one person’s day then that is all I wanted to achieve.’
Liam’s anthology is available on Amazon now and has already sold a good number of copies including four to the college library and one to the USA!
