Q: How do I achieve Work Experience?
A: You should complete an application form to register your interest. Remember some university courses REQUIRE work experience! These are available from the W/EXP & Volunteer Co-ordinator. She will check the database to see if we have a suitable placement or research to find one. This can be a lengthy process so get your application in as soon as possible. You can always come and have a chat first if you need some advice on possible choices.
Q: What sort of Volunteer opportunities are available?
A: Too many to list here. There are various events held throughout the year which are advertised on the college notice boards and the Intranet. We have links with Millennium Volunteers and local volunteer agencies, and students can continue with the Duke of Edinburgh programme. The staff can provide students with Internet research options and literature. Volunteering is a really useful way of obtaining work experience and is recognised by universities and employers.
Q: My Career..........I know what I want to do but am not sure how to go about doing it. Can you help?
A: We have a Careers Advisor from Connexions who attends college one or two times a week and you can book an appointment........just ask! We also have a careers co-ordinator based in Student Reception who you can pop down and have a chat with. She will help you with research material, contacting universities, advise on work experience and deadlines etc. During the year the college holds several events when employers and universities visit the college so you can talk to people first hand.
