Andrew McLennan

Managing Director

Back

This week, we are catching up with Andrew McLennan, former Upholland High and then Winstanley student who studied with us from 2000 to 2002. Andrew studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science (achieving a grade A in all subjects!) before going on to study at the University of Oxford.

Andrew achieved not one but three separate degrees from the University of Oxford! At undergraduate level, Andrew studied Maths and Computer Science before completing his Master of Science in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing. This included the study of applied mathematics techniques and methods of applied analysis. He didn’t stop there! Andrew then obtained his PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in Biomedical Information Engineering, successfully authoring three published journal articles and presenting his research at more than seven leading international conferences!

Currently Andrew is the Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, based in London, running the Quant and Technology teams across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific. When asked what advice he would give to prospective students, Andrew said:

“Winstanley College enables you to get out of it whatever you put in. There are no limits to what you can achieve if you put your mind to it. Work hard and see how high the beanstalk goes. Believe in yourself, work hard and prove it to yourself – and the world!”
