What is Winstanley Extra?
Winstanley Extra is the name we give our huge enrichment programme, that is all the clubs, societies, sports teams and extra qualifications you can get involved in outside of your lessons
Why take part?
With competition for university courses, apprenticeships and jobs increasing, being able to show a wide range of skills and interests can separate you from the crowd. More importantly, taking part in enrichment is a release from your studies and is excellent for your physical and mental wellbeing. It is also a chance to make new friends and create some lasting memories of your time at college.
What kinds of things can I take part in?
There are too many to list, but please see our website for the full offering. From awareness raising in BAME and LQBTQ+ societies to debating, bee keeping and performing arts, you are sure to find something that takes your interest. A range of sports are available whether you want to train casually or join a college team. Our sports teams compete in both regional and national competitions and we have a history of great success. Team training usually takes place on a Wednesday afternoon. We also offer the following accredited courses and external qualifications -
- Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award
- First Aid
- British Sign Language
Do you have a gym?
We offer all our students a FREE gym membership. You can use the gym during free periods and at lunchtimes. The gym has treadmills, step and rowing machines, free weights and assisted weight machines so can cater for all student needs. To use the college gym, you simply need to sign up for a gym membership at the Freshers’ Fair and then attend a short 10-minute gym induction that covers the rules and safety procedures.
What if I want to do an activity that isn’t offered?
Winstanley Extra is always looking to improve its enrichment programme and we welcome ideas from students. If there is an activity we do not offer and that you would like to organise, please email our Enrichment Officer, Ben Rutherford
Recent additions to our programme have been our Anime Club and Zumba Class!
When can I sign up?
Your Winstanley Extra journey begins on your Induction Day in August when we host our Freshers’ Fair in the WinFit Sports Centre. This is a great opportunity for you to find out about the range of enrichment activities we have on offer, speak to current students about their experience and ask staff any questions you may have. If you like the look of something you can register your interest and we will be in touch!
