Inspiring Futures Programme

Helping students build skills, explore careers and plan for the future.

The Inspiring Futures Programme at Winstanley College is an exciting opportunity for students to gain real-world experience, build essential skills and connect with employers and universities. Run by our Careers Hub, the programme takes place from October in Year 1 through to October in Year 2 and is designed to help students make confident, informed decisions about their next steps.

What’s involved?

Students take part in a range of activities throughout the year, including:

  • Virtual and in-person work experiences
  • Skills workshops and employability courses
  • Career talks from employers and university representatives
  • Hands-on projects and challenges led by industry experts

Earn Awards Along the Way

Students are recognised for their participation through our Bronze, Silver and Gold award system. See the criteria for this below :

Bronze Award – Perfect for exploring your options and gaining confidence.

To earn this award, students will:

  • Complete a Virtual Work Experience – get a taste of the working world online
  • Take an Employability Skills course – boost communication, teamwork and interview skills
  • Attend a careers talk or workshop – hear directly from employers, apprenticeship providers or university reps

Silver Award – Take it a step further with more in-person activities.

To earn this award, students will:

  • Complete both the Virtual Work Experience and Employability Skills course
  • Join a careers event, employer-led challenge or competition
  • Take part in a Work Taster session – a short, hands-on experience in a real job or industry

Gold Award – For students who want to stand out and gain deeper insight.

To earn this award, students will:

  • Meet the criteria for the Silver Award plus…
  • Take part in a full Work Experience placement – spend a day (or more) in a real working environment
