As part of Biology Week, Winstanley College was delighted to welcome Dr Natalie Kenny, CEO and Founder of the BioGrad Group, to speak to more than 140 science students about her journey from aspiring scientist to business leader in the biotechnology sector.

During the inspiring session, Dr Kenny shared the story of her career, the experiences that motivated her to establish BioGrad, and the groundbreaking work her company is carrying out in the field of cell therapies. Students were fascinated to learn how innovative scientific research is transforming lives and helping to deliver new treatment opportunities for patients.

Dr Kenny also highlighted a range of opportunities available to young people interested in pursuing careers in science, including workshops, journal activities and fundraising initiatives. She discussed the many pathways into the pharmaceutical, research and therapy development sectors, from working in small start-up businesses to opportunities within global organisations.

The talk gave students a valuable insight into the breadth of careers available within STEM industries and demonstrated how expertise from across scientific disciplines contributes to the success of modern healthcare and biotechnology companies.

Emma Wilkinson, Head of Biology at Winstanley College, said:

"It was a privilege to welcome Natalie to College during Biology Week. Her passion for science, innovation and improving lives through research was truly inspiring. Our students gained a fascinating insight into the real-world applications of biology and the wide range of exciting career opportunities available within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. We are extremely grateful to Natalie for sharing her experiences and encouraging the next generation of scientists."

The visit formed part of Winstanley College's ongoing commitment to providing students with opportunities to engage with industry professionals, helping them to explore future career pathways and gain a deeper understanding of how their studies can lead to rewarding and impactful careers.
