Back
Students from Winstanley College are amongst 40 000 Scouts from across the globe taking part in a World Scout Jamboree in South Korea.
Seth Johnson, Charlotte Fern, Emily Coleman and Olivia Duncan will be taking the trip to SaeManGeum, Jeollabuk-do, Republic of Korea on 27th July. The 12-day experience, from 1st-12th August, offers the chance to make friendships with people from different cultures, and is designed around several core elements: Scouting for Life, Smart & Scientific, Safe & Secure, Sustainability, and ACT: Adventure, Culture, Tradition.
Following the Jamboree there is an additional 5-day tour of Seoul, taking in the sights and experiencing the infamous night markets.
To be part of this historic event, Seth, Charlotte, Emily and Olivia had to apply and then take part in a selection day demonstrating their leadership and teamworking skills. The four impressed and were amongst just 36 Scouts from Greater Manchester to be chosen.
Olivia who is studying for A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and French and attended Byrchall High School before Winstanley, commented: ‘I have been part of the Scouting Association since a very young age, I attended Brownies before moving to Cubs, Scouts and eventually Explorers. My parents are both leaders and I’m now a young leader too so it’s definitely in the blood! We are all very excited that I am going to be part of this huge event in scouting history. I love travel and meeting Scouts from other cultures will be fascinating.’
