We are delighted to announce that our Head of Computer Science and ICT, Phil Jackson, was a finalist for the prestigious Global EdTech School Leader Award. This international recognition celebrates outstanding leadership in education technology, with Phil standing as the only representative from the United Kingdom on this year’s shortlist.

The EdTech Awards recognise individuals who are transforming teaching and learning through innovation, and Phil’s nomination reflects a sustained and strategic impact across our College. Under his leadership, Computer Science and IT outcomes place Winstanley in the top national percentiles for value-added performance, including ALPS 1 for both A-level Computer Science and IT Diploma, ranking the department in the top 1% nationally.

Students progress to leading universities and highly competitive degree apprenticeships with organisations such as BAE Systems, GCHQ and PwC, demonstrating the strength of both academic provision and career preparation. Alongside this, Phil has positioned the College as a centre of excellence in digital education, securing CyberFirst Gold status. A strong commitment to inclusion underpins this success. Female participation continues to rise and there are no gaps in achievement across different student groups, ensuring that all learners benefit from the opportunities provided.

Phil’s leadership extends across the whole College, embedding digital literacy and cyber awareness for more than 2,000 students each year. This recognition places both Phil and our College firmly on the global stage, celebrating a culture of innovation, ambition and excellence in digital education.
