Inspiring Futures Week: Progression Day and World of Work Day a Great Success
Back
Winstanley College students have taken part in two impactful careers-focused events as part of Inspiring Futures Week, with Progression Day on 22 June followed by World of Work (WOW) Day on 23 June.
Progression Day saw Lower Sixth students take control of their future pathways, creating personalised timetables from a wide range of sessions delivered by professionals, alumni and college staff. The day provided valuable insight into university, apprenticeships and careers, with visitors sharing real-world experiences and expert advice.
A particular highlight was the return of former students, including those now working in creative industries, science, medicine and beyond, who inspired current students by sharing their journeys since leaving Winstanley. Students also welcomed Mohammed Amin MBE, a former PwC Tax Partner and leading expert in economics and finance, who spoke to Business and Economics students about key economic issues including inflation, growth and the future of the UK economy, offering valuable real-world insight drawn from his distinguished career.
The following day, World of Work Day gave students the opportunity to apply this inspiration in a practical setting. Many students attended external work experience placements, while others remained in college to take part in a structured programme of careers and employability workshops. These sessions focused on developing key workplace skills, exploring different industries and preparing students for life beyond college.
Together, the two days provided a well-rounded and meaningful experience, helping students to build confidence, broaden their aspirations and take positive steps towards their future careers.
Principal Simon Lett said:
“We are incredibly grateful to all of the visitors, alumni and employers who gave their time to support our students across Progression Day and World of Work Day. Their insights and experiences bring real value, helping our students to better understand the opportunities available to them and feel more confident about their future pathways. These events are an important part of ensuring our students are well prepared for life beyond Winstanley.”
A huge thank you goes to everyone involved in making both events such a success.
