Claire Hannah
Back
This week we caught up with Claire Hannah, a former St Peter’s Catholic High School Student who attended Winstanley from 1987 -1989, she is now working as a freelance journalist/presenter and producer. You may have seen her popping up across your Social Media channels as the founder of “What’s happening in wigan” a news service dedicated to sharing Good news in the Wigan Area.
Claire says “during my time at Winstanley, I studied A levels in Fine Art, Art History and English Language. I can’t believe it’s been almost 40 years since I attended Winstanley, I’d love to go back and do it all again” After leaving Winstanley, Claire went on to complete a fine art HND in painting at Wigan College of Technology before taking some time to travel and explore Israil.
Claire says from about the age of 10, she always knew she wanted to be a journalist and she was fortunate enough to land a role on the breakfast show of Liverpool’s radio city, Claire’s exposure, dedication and hard work lead on to other opportunities within the industry including having worked with ITV Granda Reports, Channel 5 News, Bauer and UTV Radio. Claire has over 26 years’ experience in TV and Radio and as much passion for her career as ever.
Claire looks back fondly on her time at Winstanley and whilst there have been many changes over the years to the building and the courses on offer, the memories of her time at College bring back nothing but happiness and smiles. When asked if she had any advice for students she said, “Don’t ever believe that you can’t do something… because YOU CAN!”
Thank you, Claire, for sharing your story. If you are a former student please consider joining our alumni network to support and inspire students in their career ambitions: Alumni - Winstanley College
