Winstanley College’s Class of 2026 Celebrate Outstanding Results

Winstanley College students are celebrating another year of outstanding success after the Class of 2026 received their results today.  The overall A-level pass rate was 98.6%.  A hugely impressive 62.8% of students achieved A* to B grades at A-level and 30.6% achieved A*-A s.  In vocational courses, 72.3% achieved Distinction*/Distinction, which is a superb achievement!  These results top off another highly successful year for Winstanley College, which will shortly be celebrating its 50^th anniversary. 

Among the many individual success stories is Alistair Gilbert-Crowe, who studied A-level Economics, Maths and Further Maths and Physics. Alistair has secured a place at the University of Oxford to study Physics after achieving 4 A*s!

Fellow student Sharahan Arunmainayagam will also be progressing to Oxbridge after securing a place at The University of Cambridge, to study Biological Natural Sciences.

Vocational students have also achieved fantastic outcomes, progressing into a wide variety of exciting careers and professions. Arianna Cuiban, who combined A-level French with the Health Studies Diploma, will be progressing to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Speech and Language Therapy, whilst Thomas Stokes achieved a Distinction * in his IT Diploma and is going on to a Cyber Security degree at Lancaster University.

Close friends Hamsa Abou el Soub, Leo Ball and Lara Ashraf were celebrating together as they collected their results, despite each heading in a very different direction. Hasma is set to begin studying Medicine at Queen's University Belfast, while Lara will be taking up a place to study Law at The University of Manchester. Meanwhile, Leo is looking forward to staying at Winstanley College for another year to complete an Art Foundation course as he continues to develop his creative talents.

Olivia Bright was delighted to secure a place to study Veterinary Medicine through Clearing after initially being disappointed not to receive an offer earlier in the year. Her perseverance paid off on Results Day, and she is now looking forward to beginning the next chapter of her education at the University of Lancashire.

While many students will be taking up places at universities across the country, a significant number are also progressing directly into apprenticeships and employment. One such student is Tobey Hilton, who will begin a Highways Apprenticeship with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).

These diverse destinations reflect the wide range of progression opportunities available to Winstanley students and the success they achieve across both academic and vocational routes.

Principal of the College, Simon Lett, said: “I am immensely proud of our students for their excellent achievements in this year’s results. These grades reflect their hard work and resilience, but also the dedicated support of our teaching and support staff.  I wish the Class of 2026 all the very best as they progress to the next stage in their education and training and look forward to welcoming them into our ever-growing alumni community."
