Throwback Thursday: Rajveer’s Journey from Winstanley to Engineering Success
Back
This week’s Throwback Thursday shines a spotlight on Rajveer, a former Winstanley College student whose passion for STEM has taken him on an exciting career path. Rajveer attended Co-Op Academy Walkden before joining Winstanley College, where he studied A-Level Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science.
During his time at College, he embraced enrichment opportunities, taking part in sports activities such as Football 5-a-Side, Badminton, and Table Tennis. He also served as a Computer Science Student Ambassador and Subject Representative and competed in the Maths E-Bombe and Computer Science Bebras Challenges. His experiences extended beyond the classroom with trips to Bolton University’s Motorsport Facilities and a site visit to BAE Systems, giving him valuable insights into engineering and technology.
After leaving Winstanley College, Rajveer began a Manufacturing Test Engineering Degree Apprenticeship with MBDA. He is now in his second year, combining hands-on experience with academic study for a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Greater Manchester. Looking ahead, Rajveer hopes to graduate and continue his career at MBDA, working towards becoming a Senior Test Engineer.
Reflecting on his time at Winstanley College, Rajveer said he would “recommend considering Winstanley College as a place to attend. My teachers were amazing—very supportive and always went above and beyond to ensure success. Winstanley College offers a range of enrichment activities, work experience opportunities, and even pathways to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. The careers team provides excellent support with CV building, networking, and professional guidance.”
For students interested in following a similar career path, Rajveer advises choosing A-Levels in Maths, Physics, and Computer Science. “These subjects gave me a strong foundation in analytical skills, problem-solving, and programming—all crucial for engineering. I would also recommend getting involved in extracurricular activities and internships to stand out when applying for apprenticeships. This was key for me when applying and is how I was able to be where I am today.”
Rajveer’s journey is a fantastic example of how Winstanley College helps students build the skills and confidence to succeed in competitive industries.
