Last week 34 students travelled to Education in Action’s ‘Chemistry in Action’ study day. The event featured an engaging line-up of speakers from academia and industry including:
• Amazing Atoms: Can Nuclear Science Change the World? – Dr Tim Gregory (Nuclear Scientist & Author)
• Healing Elements: The Role of Metals in Modern Medicine – Dr Rianne Lord (University of Warwick)
• Are microorganisms better chemists than you? – Dr Michael Sulu (University College London)
• When the Drugs Stop Working: The Uncensored Chemistry of Antibiotics – Dr Alex Baker (University of Warwick)
• Pathways to Chemistry: a Panel Discussion – Greg Foot and our panellists

Students attended dynamic sessions on the fundamental building blocks of matter, cutting-edge chemical technologies and exam success tips. The live experiments and interactive polling were especially memorable, and they appreciated the chance to question professionals about how chemistry links to careers and real-world applications.

We are very pleased that so many students took part and made the most of this opportunity. We are confident the experience will spark further curiosity and ambition throughout our community.
