Winstanley mathematics students competed in the UKMT Maths Challenge last month with three students: Alice, Maria and Joshua all achieving Gold Certificates. This means they now move on to compete in the Senior Kangaroo.

Maria and Faith also achieved a distinction in the UKMT Olympiad for Girls with four further students achieving a merit.

The Senior UKMT Maths Challenge is a maths examination made up of challenging problem-solving questions. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

The problems on the Senior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.

Assistant Head of Maths, Tom Peters, who organised the event said, “Well done to all who took part they did amazingly well. The competition really challenges students mathematically and is excellent for them to add onto their UCAS references in the future.”
