Drew Bowers

Degree apprenticeship with JP Morgan

Back

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we are catching up with a more recent alumnus, Drew Bowers. Drew, who previously attended Culcheth High School, completed his studies in summer 2022 and secured an apprenticeship with JP Morgan. He recently contacted us to reach out to current students who may want to take a similar route after college and to update us on his journey so far.

Drew said: ‘I attended Winstanley College between 2020-2022 taking A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Geography. I then progressed to a degree apprenticeship with JP Morgan in London where I still work.

My week consist of four days with the company and one day studying towards my degree in Finance with the University of Exeter.

In my role at JP Morgan, I am part of the Fx Sales organisation. Daily, as the analyst and least experienced in the team, my work consists of performing data analytics and looking for ways to automate our manual processes through writing and developing code. As I continue to gain more experience, I have started to pitch products to our newer clients- something I have found very insightful and fun.

In the future, I see myself continuing in the field of Global Macro Sales as I really enjoy the face to face aspect of the job with clients and I find the technical side of the financial products interesting too: interest rate swaps and credit default swaps.

To anyone thinking of following a similar career route, I would say look at what others have done in the field you want to go into and copy them. Take every opportunity that you get and work hard.’
