Studying Biomedical Science

Back

Aoife, was student at Winstanley from 2020 to 2022 having previously attended St Edmund Arrowsmith. She recently returned to college in her role as student ambassador for Lancaster University where she is studying Biomedical Science.

We were delighted to welcome her back and hear about her journey so far.

‘At Winstanley I took A-levels in Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry, I also completed an EPQ.  I chose to progress to Lancaster University because I liked the idea of a campus environment – there is everything you need in one place. I am studying Biomedical Science and loving it. The lecturers are so knowledgeable and have all worked in industry; one of our professors was an adviser in the Covid-19 Pandemic so it is fascinating to hear his take on things.

To current Winstanley students considering the same route, I would say try and take part in all you can at college in terms of additional subject and enrichment activities. It can make you university application stand out. The EPQ really helped me to prepare for degree level study as it requires you to carry out and present your own research.

After my degree I am hoping to go onto Graduate Medicine and eventually work within the healthcare sector.’
